TDA2050Pro
The
TDA2050Pro is meant for professional use in converting
passive speakers to active. The entire power amplifier
can be installed inside the speakers, thus making
the bulky external power amplifier redundant.
Since
space inside a speaker is always at a premium, the
pcb is designed as small as possible. It has a footprint
of only 2.7" x 2.25". But it's not simply
the size. It is packed with everything that's needed.
First off, the power supply is on-board. There's an
8A bridge rectifier followed by 6,600uF of filter
caps. There are also two voltage regulators for the
op amp. This op amp is essential as it provides a
balanced input and sensitivity adjustment for dBu
or dBV reference.
The
main amplifier is a TDA2050 chip amp. Apparently this
chip amp is discontinued, as in quite a number of
other audio transistors. Fortunately, AmpsLab has
more than a hundred in inventory. This module is good
until our stocks are depleted.
The
performance of the TDA2050 is excellent for active
speakers. During auditioning, it was very pleasant
to listen to for background music while working.
The
TDA2050Pro is ideally suited for commercial applications
like in a restaurant for quality music while dining.
This can be seen in the impressive Rise Time of 1.6us
in the 10kHz Square Wave plot.

The
TDA2050Pro is one channel and is supplied
Unassembled. Two kits are required
for stereo.
To
complete the amplifier, the following are
needed
1) a power transformer
2) a heatsink for the TDA2050 amp
